There is no account, no sign-up, no name, no age, and no analytics of any kind. This applies to Nubi Math on iPhone, iPad and Android, and to Nubi Read on iPhone and iPad.

Neither app ever sends anything about your child anywhere. The app contains no analytics and no code of its own that talks to the internet. Everything it knows stays on your device, and it works exactly the same on a plane.

WHAT NUBI STORES, AND WHERE

Nubi keeps a small record of your child's progress so it can pick the right questions next time. It is a single file in the app's own storage on your device. It holds which lessons have been played and how far along the plan you are, which number facts (in Nubi Math) or reading skills such as letter sounds and words (in Nubi Read) have been answered correctly and how often, and how many sessions have been played and on which days.

That is the whole list. There is no name, no age, no email address, no photograph, no location, no contacts, no device identifier and no advertising identifier. Nubi never asks for any of them, so there is nothing to leak. Deleting the app deletes the record. On Android, Nubi also opts out of Android's automatic backup to Google Drive, so the record is never copied to the cloud.

NUBI'S VOICE

Nubi speaks from recordings built into the app. For the odd line without a recording, she uses the text-to-speech voice already on your device. On Android, Nubi only uses voices that run on the device itself and skips any that need the internet, so even those lines never leave it. Nubi never uses the microphone.

NO THIRD PARTIES

Nubi contains no analytics library, no advertising network, no crash reporter and no social media kit. That is a deliberate design constraint rather than an omission, and it is why the statements above can be made without qualification.

The iPhone and iPad apps contain no outside code at all. The Android app contains exactly two pieces, both made by Google for this purpose: the Play Billing library, which passes purchases to the Google Play Store app, and the Play In-App Review library, which asks Google Play to show its rating card. Neither is given anything about your child, because the app has nothing to give.

PURCHASES

If you subscribe, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store, or by Google through Google Play. Nubi never sees your payment details, your name, your Apple Account or your Google Account. The app only ever asks the store a single question, whether this device is entitled to the full version, and the store answers yes or no. Apple's or Google's own privacy policy covers that transaction.

Now and then the grown-up area may ask the store to show its standard "rate this app" card. Whether it appears, and anything you write in it, is between you and Apple or Google. Nubi never sees it.

CHILDREN

Nubi is made for children aged about four to seven. Because it collects no personal information at all, there is nothing for a parent to consent to, and no data for us to hold, sell or share. We could not identify a child who uses Nubi even if we wanted to. The grown-up area, including anything to do with buying, sits behind a gate that a young child is unlikely to pass.

YOUR RIGHTS

Rights to access, correct, export or erase personal data all apply to data a company holds about you. We hold none. If you want the record on your device erased, delete the app.

CHANGES

If Nubi ever starts collecting anything, this page will say so before that version ships, and the change will be described plainly rather than buried.

ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

Everything above describes the Nubi Math app for iPhone, iPad and Android and the Nubi Read app for iPhone and iPad, which is where your child actually is. This website is a separate thing, and it is ordinary: it is hosted by GoDaddy, and like most websites it sets cookies and counts visits so we can see how many people came here. That is website analytics about you, the adult reading this page. It is not connected to the app, it never touches your child, and the app cannot send anything here even in principle, because it has no code of its own that talks to the internet.

We would rather say this plainly than let the cookie notice in the corner of this page quietly contradict the sentence at the top of it.
